Star anise is the fruit of an evergreen tree in China and is a key ingredient in five-spice powder (which consists of cloves, cinnamon, fennel and Sichuan peppercorns). It's flavor resembles that of liquorices, fennel, and tarragon. It is a key ingredient in Champurrado which is a hot thick Mexican drink made of corn masa and chocolate and is similar to American hot coco.
*Anise Spice when made into a liquid scent is used for fishing. It is put on fishing lures to attract fish.
